The Digest Diet – Phase 1 Results

Hi gang! I’m back to recap my first 4 days on The Digest Diet.

Yesterday marked Day 4 and the end of the “Fast Release” phase.  After 4 days of sucking down shakes and slurping up soups, I’m happy to say that I’m down a pound already!

I’m not gonna lie – I’m glad I’m done with this phase. I was actually craving meat by the end of the day yesterday! And it was extremely hard to watch my family eat regular meals while I sat there and tried to pretend that my Digest Diet shake was a cheeseburger.

Okay, it wasn’t that bad. The shakes were very delicious, and pretty filling. Check out the Digest Diet shake recipe here.

I stuck to the banana and peanut butter combination for all my shakes because I liked it a lot. I added both cinnamon and cocoa powder – yum!

The soups were very good, too. I started out with the Kale and Chickpea soup, but then switched to the Spiced Asian Squash on Day 3.

This soup was AMAZING. I could seriously eat it every day.

And I did like the fact that I didn’t have to think about what I was going to eat. The limited choice was a bit refreshing. Except for the snacks. Oh boy, the snacks just didn’t cut it for me, sorry Reader’s Digest! Ricotta on bell peppers? Blech. Cream cheese on celery – eh, okay. Mozzarella wrapped with romaine lettuce – meh.

Yesterday was a test on my resolve. I am an emotional eater, and I had a smack-down, no-holds-barred crappy day. All three kids were up before six – as in A.M., my daughter was diagnosed with asthma after enduring a 1 1/2 hour doctor’s office visit, complete with throw up and my son trashing the examining room.

Oh, and I decided to weigh myself and I was only down ONE POUND.

Yup, that kind of day.

So, I fought the urge to eat a burger. I ignored the chocolate chip cookies, the call of the drive-thru, and my yearnings for chocolate. But in the end, I succumbed – to 6 mini raviolis left over from the family’s dinner.

Overall, it’s not horrible – this was one of those “eat a pint of Ben and Jerry’s for dinner” kind of days. But I didn’t. I had my shakes, I had my soup, and drank a lot of water, and pretty much held it together.

Bring on Phase 2 – I get to have WINE! (I’ll give you the low down on the next phase tomorrow.)

Tell me – how do you handle the seriously crappy days like the one I had?

1 pound down is a great achievement — slow and steady wins the race! Congrats!! XO

Thanks, Deirdre! I was really hoping for it to be more, but…it’s okay. I have been doing Weight Watchers for a while now, so I figured I might not have that initial “woosh” of weight that someone just starting to diet might have.

One poud down is great! I hate days like you had yesterday but I think you really handled it well. I try to follow suit. If its an emotion I want to eat I give in but on somthing that will do the least amount of damage. Force myself to end the emotional eating on that day.

    Keep up the great work!

    Hey, a pound is a pound! :D

For crappy days over here, I just go to bed early. No kidding. I put the kids to bed, kiss my husband, and crash. Otherwise I’ll invade the cookie stash…

Well you’re doing better than I am–I haven’t lost ONE SINGLE POUND. As a fellow Blog It Off! challenger, I’m so pissed off bc I know we’ve both been following the diet closely. Hopefully next week we’ll see a ton come off at once, like it’s all finally caught up, but for now, stay strong! And out of the kitchen :)

Thanks! I knew my loss was going to be slower since I have been doing Weight Watchers since May. And you – I think you look beautiful, I don’t know why you want to lose anymore!!!

Thanks, Patty! I am very proud of my behavior the last couple of days, at least in the eating department. This was a prime example of a time when I usually go off the deep end, but I managed to keep it together!

I know, I know…I was just hoping, after FOUR DAYS of soup and shakes, that I would have more than a pound to show for it. But, that just goes to show you what a fickle b*tch that scale really is…
I like the go to bed early thing!

Girlfriend girlfriend! I feel your pain. I gained 4 ounces! Seriously, I also do Weight Watchers and those shakes are 11 points! I can’t. I’m glad its over too. I think working out is the only way to kick it in gear.

I loved the banana peanut butter shakes too. I made them exactly the same way! I would definitely drink those again in the future even after the diet.

Well, it’s phase 2 and the first 2 days I messed up since I had a wedding to go to AND it was my 5 year anniversary. No siree I was not going to be sucking down that tiny bit of food for those occasions. Back on track now though
